Camping Activities for Kids

If you and your family can’t wait for your next camping trip together, you will love these great ideas for keeping the kids entertained around the campsite. These camping activities for kids will provide hours of fun, come rain or shine. And with France and the rest of Europe just 35-minutes away with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, your next family adventure has never been more accessible.

My family and I love to go on camping holidays together. There's nothing quite like spending quality time with your loved ones in the great outdoors. As a mother of three, I have learnt that the best way to make the most of your camping trip is to have an arsenal of activities that will keep everyone happy regardless of whether the sun is shining or it's pouring with rain. Being French, France is very important to my family and me, and we love the freedom to explore the culture that the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle affords us. Here are a couple of my favourite ideas to inspire you and entertain the kids whilst you're camping.

On Your Bike

A bike ride with the whole family is a great opportunity to explore the area and spend quality time together.

My kids love nothing more than going for a bike ride in the countryside. They relish the freedom having a bike gives them to go, explore, and do their own thing for a bit, as well as going on the family rides. Check with your campsite for information on the best cycle routes in the area and local sightseeing. They will also be able to tell you where you can hire bikes for your holiday if you don't have a bike rack for taking your own.

Go Fish!

Kids love the chance to be by the water, and fishing is something you can all enjoy together. It's a great way to get outside and appreciate nature whilst relaxing with your family. If fishing doesn't really sound like your thing though, take the opportunity to enjoy to enjoy other aquatic pursuits such as swimming or water sports. You'd also be amazed by the entertainment found in the bottom of a bucket of pond life! Make sure to always check with your campsite where it's safe to swim and where you can find your nearest aquatic sports centre.

Treasure Hunt

If you have a portable GPS device, use the opportunity of being in the great outdoors to get involved with the Geocaching craze. Use your tracker to locate hidden markers, and join in the fun with over 6 million intrepid explorers worldwide. Alternatively, you can keep things simple with a good old fashioned scavenger hunt. It's a great activity for discovering wildlife that the whole family to join in with.

Get Crafty

If it happens to rain, get creative! Kids love arts and crafts.

If it should happen to rain whilst you're on holiday, it's a good idea to have some fun indoor activities at the ready. You can't go wrong with a couple of puzzles and activities, or anything creative. Kids love arts and crafts, and can still enjoy nature with fun ideas such as flower pressing, bark rubbing, rock painting and making leaf collages.

Round the Campfire

There's nothing quite like sitting around a campfire with your family, and it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy some activities together. Sing some classic camping songs whilst toasting marshmallows over the fire, or wrap up in blankets and tell each other ghost stories!

Happy Camping!
