What is Operation Brock?

Operation Brock is a set of measures implemented by Highways England to keep the M20 open in both directions between junctions 8 and 9 in the event of disruption to services across the English Channel, by using different holding areas.

The queuing system only applies to lorries heading to mainland Europe from Kent.

Drivers of cars, coaches and non-HGV vehicles

Phase 1 - Use any available major route. If you use the M20, between junctions 8 and 9 you’ll use the two-way contraflow system on the London-bound carriageway. A 50mph limit will be in place.

Phase 2 & 3 - Use the M20. Between junctions 8 and 9 you’ll use the two-way contraflow system on the London-bound carriageway. A 50mph limit will be in place.

Phase 4 - You won’t be able to use the M26. Follow the same procedure as for Phase 2 & 3.

Traffic levels will be monitored with roads signs directing drivers.
